The contract winners about to let packages and hire people.

A main contractor that wins a works or facilities contract rarely does all of it with its own people. Groundworks, electrical, roofing, cleaning shifts and site staff are let or hired after the award and before the start. The award names the winner, the value and the start date; the card adds what the company already does, so a subcontractor or an agency can see what may be bought in.

An invented example of the shape of a card. See a real one, opened.

What puts a card here
A company signs a works, maintenance or facilities contract and has to staff and supply it.
When the money moves
Packages are let and staff are hired in the weeks between the signing and the start.
You sell
subcontract packages, materials, workwear, recruitment and agency staff

What a contract win tells a subcontractor or an agency.

The award says what was bought and when it starts; the company's own record says what trades it has. The gap between the two is the work it may let or staff from outside, and the card sets them side by side.

The size of the market first, without names: UK public contracts awarded, counted weekly on capexradar.uk, the engine behind Stanfell.

  1. What the contract covers, in words, which says which trades and materials the work runs on.
  2. The company's registered activity and its size in the last accounts, so you can tell what it does itself from what it may let.
  3. How long the contract runs, which separates a one-off package from years of steady supply.

Subcontractors, merchants and agencies who use it.

  • Subcontractors and specialist trades
  • Builders' merchants and materials suppliers
  • Recruitment and labour agencies
  • Workwear, PPE and uniforms
  • Cleaning and facilities subcontractors

Subcontract and staffing leads: your questions.

Is the winner obliged to subcontract?
No, and the card does not say it will. It shows what the contract covers and what the company registers as doing itself, so the gap is something to ask about, not a promise.
Can I keep to my own region?
Yes. A card carries the region of the company that won, from its address. The work itself may be elsewhere, and the buyer's name usually says where.

If this is what you sell, this is your category.

You sell subcontract packages, materials, workwear, recruitment and agency staff. Choose “Subcontract, materials and staffing” when you sign in and every card you are shown is read for that trade.
