Who we are

Stanfell publishes cards about UK businesses every weekday, built from public records. You can reach us at contact@stanfell.com. Using an account means accepting what is on this page.

An account belongs to a person at a business

Each person signs in with their own work address, and up to three colleagues at the same company can each have an account. For more, write to contact@stanfell.com and we will add you; a company with a National subscription may have as many as it needs. Do not share the address you sign in with outside your business: a code sent to it is enough to read your account.

Access without a subscription

An account reads, at no charge, the cards the pricing page describes as open: for 7 days from the day it chooses, every card of one market it chooses, once per company, shared by its accounts; and a quarter of each day’s new cards in every market, in the archive too. The rest show their figures without the company. We hold no payment details, and nobody is charged for a subscription before agreeing its price.

The cards are for your own business’s sales work. They may not be resold, passed on outside your business, published, or collected automatically. The compilation is ours and protected as a database; the public records it is built from remain public.

What we promise, and what we do not

Every card is built from a public record and links to it, and we hold ourselves to publishing nothing that does not carry a figure or a dated milestone, a company we can name, and that link. What we cannot promise is the conclusion: that a company will buy, that it will buy from you, that it will buy soon, or that a figure on a record turns into an order of the same size. A card is a reason to make a call, not a forecast, and it is not advice of any kind. Check the record before you rely on anything.

What a card shows from a company's filed accounts or from a register (a loan, an insolvency notice, a licence decision) is stated as that record states it, on the date it shows. It is not a credit rating or an opinion of the company.

Records are sometimes wrong, late or amended, and our reading of one can be wrong too. Tell us when you find that and we will correct it.

What we ask you not to do

Use what you read to sell. Show a card to a colleague or a contact if it is useful — that is what it is for. What we do ask is that you do not resell or republish the service itself as a product of your own, and that you do not use automated means to copy the cards out in bulk. A card's phone numbers, email addresses and website open one card at a time, on up to 60 new cards a day; a card you have opened before shows them again at no cost. That is more than a full day of calls. We rate-limit and log requests, and an account that is being harvested rather than read will be closed.

Examples on the public pages

The cards on the category pages are worked examples, written to show the shape and the reasoning of a real one; their companies, references and figures are invented. The card on the home page is a real card with its company, places, figures, numbers and contacts changed, so that it points to no real business. What arrives in your account is real, with a link to the record each card came from.

Where the information comes from

The cards are built from information published by UK public bodies, some of it licensed under the Open Government Licence v3.0. Your account carries that attribution, and the licence permits you to use what you read there in your own business.

Ending it

You can stop at any time by telling us, and we will close the account and delete it on request. We can close an account that is being used against these terms, or if we stop publishing altogether.

Liability

Nothing here limits liability for anything that cannot lawfully be limited. Beyond that, we are not liable for lost profit, lost business or a decision made on the strength of a card, and our total liability is capped at what you have paid us in the previous twelve months. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.

Changes

If these terms change in a way that matters, we will email the address on your account before the change takes effect.
