The companies that have just won a public contract.

When a council, an NHS trust or a government department signs a contract, the award is published with the winner, the value and the dates. A company that has just won a transport round, a maintenance contract or a works package now has a start date to meet, and much of what it takes to deliver the work may still be to arrange. That is the moment its own suppliers want to hear about.

  • £2.4m over three years for a county council's building maintenance.
  • Signed 28 October 2026; the work starts 5 January 2027.
  • A limited company formed in 2012, with two charges outstanding.

A three-year job from January at a company that will need vans, trades and working capital to staff it: every supplier to a growing maintenance firm has the same ten weeks.

An invented example of the shape of a card. See a real one, opened.

What puts a card here
A company signs a public contract worth £250k or more, with a start date to meet.
When the money moves
Vehicles, people and finance for a new contract are arranged between the signing and the first day of the work.

What a public contract award says about the winner.

An award names the winner, the buyer, the value and the dates, and says nothing about how the work will be delivered. The card puts the award beside the company's accounts, its lenders and what it already runs, so a supplier can tell a stretch from business as usual.

The size of the market first, without names: UK public contracts awarded, counted weekly on capexradar.uk, the engine behind Stanfell.

  1. Who the buyer is, what was bought and what the contract is worth, so you know the size of the job before you call.
  2. The day the contract was signed and the day the work starts, which is how long the winner has to get ready.
  3. The company behind the award, its accounts and its lenders, so you know whether it can carry the work from its own cash.

Who sells to public contract winners.

  • Vehicle and plant dealers and hire
  • Asset finance, bond and insurance brokers
  • Subcontractors and specialist trades
  • Recruitment and labour agencies
  • Workwear and PPE suppliers

Public contract leads: your questions.

Are these tenders I can bid for?
No. These contracts are already awarded. The card is for the businesses that sell to the winner: the vehicles, people, finance and subcontract work it takes to deliver the contract.
Which public contracts do you include?
Contracts of £250k or more for work a company has to staff, equip and move: building and civil works, repairs and maintenance, passenger transport, grounds, security, waste and cleaning, won by a company rather than a charity or a public body. A framework that names a long list of suppliers is left out, because a place on a list is not yet work, and so is the supply of goods, advice, design, audit or legal work: those winners buy little for the job.

Start with tomorrow morning.

A work email is all it takes. Say what you sell and the latest cards are waiting, read for your trade. If it is not worth your morning, stop whenever you like and nothing happens.
